The Skin I Live In
A brilliant plastic surgeon, haunted by past tragedies, creates a type of synthetic skin that withstands any kind of damage. His guinea pig: a mysterious and volatile woman who holds the key to his obsession.
The Skin I Live In is the most twisted and bizarre film since Mulholland Drive. Spoiling anything about this movie would be a crime. Antonio Banderas gives a great performance as Robert Ledgard, the plastic surgeon trying to create the perfect skin. I loved all the scientific parts of the story, and the crazy, unexpected plot twist at the end. With a running time over two hours, It could have been shorter. Like they should have cut down some of the flashbacks, but whenever I started to lose interest, It would do something cool to grab my attention. I like this movie a lot, but If it focused a little bit more on the mad scientist side of the story and the strange, suspenseful and thrilling scenes, I would have loved It. Hollywood will probably remake this movie, and if they do, get David Lynch to direct. It's not for everyone, but if you like art house horrors and don't mind reading subtitles, The Skin I Live In is a must see.
