elysium
Set in the year 2154, where the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth, a man takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds.
One of the most entertaining action movies of the year. Elysium is Neill Blomkamp's follow-up to District 9, a modern science-fiction classic. While it isn't as good as District 9, I still really enjoyed this. Matt Damon plays Max, Living on a overpopulated and ruined Earth. He is exposed to a large amount of radiation and has five days to get to Elysium, a space station where the rich live in paradise, to cure his illness before he dies. Matt Damon is a good actor, and I liked him in this. Sharlto Copley, who played Wikus Van De Merwe in District 9, plays a completely different role as Kruger, a mercenary who takes down immigrants from Earth that infiltrate Elysium. Copley was a little weakling in District 9. Here, he is a complete bada**. A great unnoticed actor that needs to be in more movies. Elysium isn't perfect. Jodie Foster's performance as Delacourt, the Elysian Secretary of Defense, is painful to watch. She puts on this terrible accent that made me cringe whenever she opened her mouth. Also, the final fight between Max and Kruger loses some of the intensity from the shaky cam. Despite it's flaws, Elysium is a solid science-fiction action film I highly recommend.
