John Carter
Transplanted to Mars, a Civil War vet discovers a lush planet inhabited by 12-foot tall barbarians. Finding himself a prisoner of these creatures, he escapes, only to encounter a princess who is in desperate need of a savior.
My expectations for John Carter weren't too high. I was expecting another TRON: Legacy. A good, not great movie that's fun to watch, but completely forgettable. And that's exactly what John Carter is. Some epic battle scenes and really cool visual effects. The 3D adds almost nothing to the movie, so save your 5 bucks for something better. There are problems with pacing. Like it could have had more action and less talking. Great cast with William Dafoe, Mark Strong, Thomas Haden Church and Bryan Cranston. Even though Dafoe and Haden Church are only voices, and Cranston is only in the movie for 10 minutes. Fans of the novels are saying "without John Carter, there would be no Star Wars or Avatar". That is true, but at least those movies did what's done here a lot better. John Carter has problems, but it's entertaining enough to watch on the big screen at a matinee price.
