Savages
Pot growers Ben and Chon face off against the Mexican drug cartel who kidnapped their shared girlfriend.
I will tell you it definitely lives up to it's title. Oliver Stone's Savages isn't a masterpiece, but still an entertaining ultra-violent crime thriller. What makes this movie work is the cast. John Carter and Battleship proved that Taylor Kitsch can't act his way out of a paper bag. Kitsch succeeds at his chance to redeem himself as an actor. Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch are both great as Ben and Chon, two stoners who grow the best cannabis ever developed, Sharing a three-way relationship with their girlfriend O, played by Blake Lively. I thought Blake Lively was good, but she is given some terrible dialogue. Lines like "I have orgasms, he has wargasms". Salma Hayek and Benicio De Toro were awesome Elena and Lado, members of the Mexican drug cartel holding O hostage. At 130 minutes, they could have cut out some scenes to fasten up the pace. The biggest crime committed in Savages was the unnecessary, most cop out ending ever. Whoever wrote the screenplay for this movie, you're probably best to choose another career which has nothing to do with the film industry. It's nowhere near being in the same league as Natural Born Killers, but their's still enough gruesome fun to have with Savages.
