Cosmopolis
Riding across Manhattan in a stretch limo in order to get a haircut, a 28-year-old billionaire, Eric Packer asset manager's day devolves into an odyssey with a cast of characters that start to tear his world apart.
David Cronenberg is one of the greatest directors alive, so I had a good feeling that this would be one of the year's best movies. Sadly, Cosmopolis is just a boring, pretentious pile of garbage. The whole movie is just a series of long conversations with characters who have nothing important or interesting to say. One of the few redeeming qualities is Robert Pattison's excellent performance. Like Taylor Kitsch in Savages, I think if you could get a good performance if an actor is paired with the right director. Sarah Gadon gives a terrible performance as Elise Shifrin, Eric's wife who never wants to have sex with him. Shifrin is unable to show more than one facial expression and speaks in mono tone. I have to say that Eric Packer's limousine is awesome. It's sad because I really wanted to love this, but there's nothing that's the slightest bit enjoyable. Cosmopolis is a real disappointment, especially coming from a director like David Cronenberg.
