the hunger games: catching fire
Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark become targets of the Capitol after their victory in the 74th Hunger Games sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem.
The Hunger Games was a flawed yet entertaining adaptation of the novel written by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is darker and grittier than the first film and explores deeper into It's thought-provoking themes. There's many emotional scenes that give the film a more dramatic tone. Directed by Francis Lawrence, Jennifer Lawrence's brother, does a better job directing Catching Fire than Gary Ross did with the first Hunger Games. Jennifer Lawrence is very good as Katniss Everdeen. Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson are fine as the two love interests. Hemsworth playing Gale Hawthorne, and Hutcherson playing Peeta Mellark. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is an incredible actor and gives easily the best performance in the movie as Plutarch Heavenbee, the Head Gamemaker of The Hunger Games and wants Katniss dead. The slow pace of the first half had me less engaged. Then it started to get more tense and thrilling in the training scenes and when Katniss is playing in the games. The games are more deadly this time around with poison smoke, giant gorillas, force fields and danger at every turn. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is an improvement over the first film. I didn't love it. They could have picked up the pace a bit more. Still, I enjoyed Catching Fire enough to make it worth a recommendation.
