jupiter ascending
In a bright and colorful future, a young destitute caretaker gets targeted by the ruthless son of a powerful family who lives on a planet in need of a new heir, so she travels with a genetically engineered warrior to the planet in order to stop his tyrant reign.
Aside from the polarizing Cloud Atlas and producing V for Vendetta, the Wachowski's haven't made anything great since the original Matrix. Jupiter Ascending is a fun, visually dazzling sci-fi space adventure. Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) is a young caretaker destined to become the owner of Earth, the most valuable planet in the universe. She is protected by a genetically engineered warrior named Caine Wise (Channing Tatum) from aliens sent to kill her by Balem Abrasax (Eddie Redmayne), the son of a powerful family wanting to take Earth from Jupiter.
Mila Kunis is fine, although I think anyone could have played her character. I liked Channing Tatum as the hero. Oscar nominee Eddie Redmayne as the whispering and shouting villain is hilariously awful. Some of the dialogue is extremely dumb and cheesy, but the special effects are top-notch, the action is entertaining and Michael Giacchino's score is fantastic. I love science-fiction and Jupiter Ascending is nothing more than fun popcorn entertainment.
