Super
After his wife falls under the influence of a drug dealer, an everyday guy transforms himself into Crimson Bolt, a superhero with the best intentions, though he lacks for heroic skills.
Super is the most entertaining, ultra-violent fun you will have at the movies this year. Frank walks the streets wearing his amateur, homemade superhero costume, bashing people (some innocent) with a wrench, leaving them on the ground screaming in pain. It's ugly, brutal, and just hilarious. The cast is superb. Rainn Wilson is great as Frank D'Arbo, a mentally disturbed individual that the audience is forced to decide weather he is a hero or a psychopath. Ellen Page knock it out of the park as Libby, a 22-year-old girl working in a comic book store that becomes the Crimson Bolt's kid sidekick, Boltie, who's even more crazy and f**ked up than he is. Kevin Bacon plays Jock, the drug dealer that steals Sarah, leaving Frank sad, losing the only good thing about his life. Kevin Bacon is amazing and knows how to play a great villain, just like Sebastian Shaw in X-Men: First Class. Near the end, Frank and Libby arm themselves with guns, pipe bombs, and wolverine claws to infiltrate Jock's mansion, save Sarah and totally f**king beat evil. For it's low $2 million budget, quite an impressive and exciting climax. A real shame that this movie didn't have enough money for better marketing. Super isn't a movie for everyone. There will be people who like Kick-Ass that will not like Super. I love this movie, and I could watch it over and over again. By far the most underrated movie of the year.
