rush
A re-creation of the merciless 1970s rivalry between Formula One rivals James Hunt and Niki Lauda.
Rush isn't the triumph critics are praising it as, but it's still a thoroughly enjoyable sports movie. The two lead performances are excellent. Chris Hemsworth is one of the most likeable actors, and he nails it as James Hunt, the cocky world champion race car driver who plays for the thrill of staring death in the face. Daniel Bruhl, known for his roll as Fredrick Zoller in Inglourious Basterds, is Niki Lauda, Hunt's intelligent Austrian rival that's serious when it comes to racing. Rod Howard's slick direction helps recreate the feeling of the event. The race scenes are also pretty incredible. Close up shots of the grass blowing away as the formula 1 cars speed across the track. There's many good things to be said about Rush. I can almost get it to a four star rating. Unfortunately, even though it's based on a true story, Rush too often feels formulaic. Still, Rush is an entertaining biopic that's worth watching.
