nymphomaniac
A self-diagnosed nymphomaniac recounts her erotic experiences to the man who saved her after a beating.
Art disguised as x-rated porno. Lars von Trier's erotic odyssey Nymphomaniac is daring, provocative and engrossing. Melancholia & Antichrist star Charlotte Gainsbourg, plays Joe. Found beaten in a dark alleyway by Stellan Skarsgard, Joe tells him her life story as a nymphomaniac. Newcomer Stacy Martin plays Young Joe. Rebelling against love, together Joe and her best friend B, would go around having sex with as many men as possible. Hopping on trains wearing "f**k me now" clothes to see who can seduce the most passengers. Charlotte Gainsbourg and Stacy Martin knock it out of the park as Joe. Volume II is darker and more disturbing than Volume I. Showing the consequences of Joe's lustful, loveless lifestyle. The story takes some unexpected turns. Jamie Bell gives an effectively creepy performance as sadist K, the most intriguing character. Shia LaBeouf gives a good performance as Jerome, Joe's closest to a lover. Uma Thurman makes the most memorable scene in the entire film. Using convincing prosthetics, CGI and porn doubles. Nymphomaniac's explicit sexual content is anything but sexy. The lurid subject matter will make some people uncomfortable. It's a shame that Lars von Trier tells his audience to go f**k themselves, with a forced, unnecessary ending. Still, this is a very poetic film that anyone who enjoys experimental film should see.
