The Dark Knight Rises
Eight years on, a new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham's finest, and the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy.
The epic conclusion to Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy is here. Does it live up to hype? Yes. Tom Hardy stole this movie as Bane. If you thought Joker was trouble, wait till you see Bane. The new mask makes him look more menacing than in the comics. People won't be talking about Tom Hardy's performance for years, like Heath Ledger's monumental performance in The Dark Knight, but Bane is still my favourite movie character of the year. Who really surprised me is Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. From the trailers, I felt she played it too over the top. Catwoman is awesome. Being the last of the trilogy, the first half is mostly drama. Dealing with Bruce Wayne's relationship with Alfred and Commissioner Gordon covering up the truth about Harvey Dent. Then the spectacular second half kicks in. Batman gets his back broken, Bane unleashes chaos, the epic battle to save Gotham City. The Dark Knight Rises is close to perfection. The death of Bane was a bit anti-climatic. Even though I didn't really have a problem with the three hour running time, they could have cut it down in some places. Those are just minor nitpicks. It doesn't quite beat The Avengers, but The Dark Knight Rises is a highly satisfying conclusion to a great trilogy.
